My Near Death Experience As A Child
I’ve been interested in the power of the mind and spirituality since a near death experience as a child. When I was 7 years old, I accidentally hung myself by the neck trying to make my tire swing higher above the ground.
My dad had hung a tire on a rope from an old walnut tree branch in our back yard. The branch was about 15′ above the ground and the bottom of the tire was about 15-18″ above the ground. I loved swinging as high as I could go on that swing.
One day, I got a wild idea that maybe I could swing higher if the tire was higher off the ground, by wrapping the rope around the tree branch a few times. It seemed logical for a 7 year old at the time.
My dad was I lineman and the only ladder we had access to was with him on his work truck. So, I gathered up some small scrap boards and a hammer and nails and proceeded to nail boards into the tree, up to the lowest branch opposite the tire swing.
Within an hour of my wonderful brainstorm idea, I was straddling the branch above the tire and proceeded to pull the tire up into the tree and onto the branch. It was somewhat of a struggle because the tire was very heavy for me. when I got the tire up onto the branch, I didn’t realize the rope had wrapped around me a couple of times and as the tire slipped over the other side of the branch, it jerked me over the side with it.
It was a painful jerk and the rope was tight around my neck. I couldn’t breathe and one arm was also tangled in the rope and my feet where hanging right below the top of the tire. I tried to stand on the tire and it just tightened the rope around my neck.
Within seconds I could no longer move or struggle as I was slowly turning in circles. I had given up trying to breathe. As I slowly turned facing the back of our house, I saw my Mother looking out the kitchen window and I saw the horrified shock on her face.
She ran out the back door and started running toward me. About half way there, she must have realized she would be unable to reach where the rope was tangled around my neck and she turned around and started running back. Then she turned toward the neighbors house as if to get help and then she just stopped for a second. I guess she realized she wouldn’t have time to get help, as I was already near death, so she turned and made a beeline back towards the house.
We had a giant cable spool that my dad brought home from his company to use as a picnic table for the back yard. Laying down, the spool was about 4′ high and standing on end, about 7′ high made of very thick wood and it probably weighed 200 pounds or more. The picnic table spool was right beside our back porch, about 30 feet from the tree.
My mother was a very small 5’1 1/2″, 98 pound woman and had never before been able to even budge that picnic table without my dad’s help. That fact wasn’t about to stop her now. With superhuman strength, she flipped that giant spool up like it was cardboard and rolled it up to me, laid it down and jumped up and saved me, in the nick of time. The next thing I knew I was being rocked in the living room as I cried.
For about two weeks, I had a very painful dark red rash from the rope burn around my neck. We didn’t really discuss the near death incident after I told her how it happened. We just agreed it wouldn’t happen again… until sometime later when I had another reason for going back up into the tree. This time I asked if she would come out with me and help me move the picnic table back to the tree.
She said there was no way she could. That picnic table was to heavy to budge. I reminded her that she had moved it before to save me and I had watched her move it like it was nothing.
She flatly denied having moved the picnic table to the tree. I told her I was there and watched her. How else would it have moved. She told me that the table was there when she came out and there was no way I saw anything because I was unconscious and near death when she found me.
To this day she has no recollection of moving the giant spool. My scars have faded away, however the vivid memory of the events of that day never have. I still don’t believe my eyes ever closed, my vision was clear. My head was calm.
These abilities of super human strength and vision and inner peace in the face of incredible stress are dormant in all of us. It is also possible to wake up these dormant strengths through various meditation techniques. Some of these meditation techniques can take months or years to learn with professional training.
Brainwave entrainment, on the other hand has shown that even without guided meditation assistance, repeated exposure to certain brainwave states can awaken and empower us with our long lost, natural power of the mind. Brainwave entrainment is also known as biofeedback or neuro-feedback and with meditation, is one of the few things approved by the American Cancer Society as a supplemental treatment to cancer. See Self Healing
Brainwave entrainment combined with guided meditation is even more powerful, and can rapidly provide many powerful mental, physical, health related and spiritual benefits, starting within only a few days of listening to very relaxing and enjoyable audio recordings. Over a longer period of time, the benefits continue to increase with regular use. Brainwave entrainment actually creates new neural pathways in the brain enabling better communication between the various parts of the brain. Long term use has been shown to even repair or heal parts of the brain damaged by drug and alcohol use.

Thanks for the insightful article. I look forward to reading more.
I never thought that such an experience can open some brain power. You mother’s adrenaline must have worked that she was able to carry the spool alone. I am just amazed how your memory worked well at that time or could it also be that such traumatic experience would register in our mind.
Wow! I am pleased you lived to tell this story. I have goose bumps all over me. You have written this piece with such passion and what a story teller you are, except that this is not just a story, this is something you experienced.
I love your post! what an insightful article. i enjoy reading it. thanks for sharing the experience…
I agree! i am amazed also of her memory that worked well at that time or could it also be that such traumatic experience would register in our mind.nice post! keep it up!
Your Mom surely had the adrenaline pumping through her veins. Adrenaline is extremely powerful. Very interesting how sounds can bring inner strengths out of you. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! what a story! Your mom is really brave and you could say a mom’s strength can never be doubted when it comes to her child. I agree, the mind is really powerful and can be revealed if we want to. Improving our brain memory is not a challenge but it is up to us if we want to put some work into it, which can be done on a daily basis.
That’s quite horrifying but you should know it’s also very good to know what your’re actually dealing with here!
Me too. I never had imagine that brain thought power.I laughed when I read the paragraph about your mother that before he can’t even bulged a small table but when the accident happened, she did it.! That’s what we call the power of adrenaline rush. haha
I just like the valuable information you supply on your articles. I will bookmark your weblog and check once more right here frequently. I am quite certain I will be told lots of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next!
